A unicorn company is described as a startup with a value over 1$ billion. This term was popularized by Aileen Lee, a venture capitalist founder of Cowboy VC, a venture capital fund based in Palo Alto, California, USA.

Bytedance ($75 billion): operator of the TikTok short video platform, is the parent company of China’s most popular media site, Toutiao.
Uber ($72 billion): American multinational transportation network company (TNC) that offers different types of ride services, including peer-to-peer ridesharing, ride service hailing, food delivery, and a bicycle-sharing system.
Didi Chuxing ($65 billion): is the world’s leading mobile transportation platform. The company offers a full range of app-based transportation options for 550 million users in Asia, Australia and South America.
WeWork ($47 billion): founded in New York in 2010 with a goal to offer coworking spaces to entrepreneurs, startup companies, freelancers and even larger entreprises.
JUUL Labs ($38 billion): electronic cigarette company that became the most popular e-cigarette in the United States at the end of 2017.
The first unicorns were founded in the 1990s. Nowadays, there are 342 companies the world valued at more than $1 billion with a collective worth of nearly $1.1 trillion.
